If a phone number or address looks wrong or outdated, that reflects the source it was collected from, not a claim that the branch has closed.
The banking sector in Tanzania is supervised by the Bank of Tanzania, which keeps the register this directory checks entries against. That register currently lists 228 licensed institutions of all kinds across the country, covering commercial banks, microfinance banks, and other licensed categories together; it does not break the total down further. Entries for institutions that have closed or changed their name are kept on this site on purpose, marked as such, rather than deleted, so the record stays honest about what used to operate here.
